Rocas Alijos (Alijos Rocks) - One of the most virgin dive destinations in the world. Alijos Rocks is located 155 miles off of the Baja California peninsula and 480 miles south of San Diego. Alijos Rocks are three small rock outcroppings that are the exposed tip of a 12,000 foot high submerged volcano and located in the transition zone between two major marine biologic areas.

In 2007 the Horizon visited Alijos Rocks twice and came away “believing that this place is well worth the trip!” Huge schools of giant Yellowfin Tuna and Wahoo prowling deep blue waters with 100+ foot of visibility! Topped off with green sea turtles, 8 foot wingspan Mobulas, silky sharks and a plethora of tropical Baja reef species to round off this world class dive experience!

On the way down to Alijos Rocks we stop and warm up our blue water skills at San Benito island with massive schools of Yellowtail and large White Sea Bass then move on to Alijos Rocks for possible world class Yellowfin Tuna, Wahoo, Dorado, and more Yellowtail. The current 84.6 pound world spearfishing record for Yellowtail was caught at Alijos Rocks in 2003.

Alijos Rocks is truly one of Baja’s final frontiers and you’ll be one of the few to experience the adrenaline rush of spearfishing and diving in such a pristine location. An adventure like this shared with persons from all walks of life can form friendships for a lifetime.

October/November is the best time of year for Yellowfin Tuna, Wahoo, and possible world record Yellowtail. With water visibility typically in excess of 100 feet, October/November also offers some of the best weather conditions.

Although the Horizon can accommodate over 30 divers, space on this trip is limited to a passenger load of 16 Freedivers. Scuba Divers are also welcome although no spearfishing can be done on Scuba in Mexico. Join us for what promises to be a trip of a lifetime that you will be talking about well into your 90’s!
